Friday Smiles

This is what made us smile in grade 2 this week πŸ™‚

Oct. 11– Making a story in music (Hayden)

Oct. 12– Playing games on the computer (Porter)

Oct. 13– Doing a science experiment (Brooklyn)

We have had fun this week with our grade 12 Work Experience student Miss Fedora. She has been a great help in our room. Miss Fedora is with us until October 24.

Next week is Education week and to celebrate the theme Celebrating Today, Preparing for Tomorrow we will be doing 2 activities.

On Monday it is Bus Driver Appreciation Day and each classroom is doing something special for a bus driver at school. Did you know that we have 11 buses at W.E.S.?

On Friday October 21 the students are encouraged to Dress For Success– which means that the children can dress up to represent their dream of a future career.

Here are some pictures from our week;

Bullying Awareness Week

The University of Saskatchewan Nursing Students have organized a Bullying Awareness week for us at W.E.S. next week October 17-21. There will be special events and activities each day next week.

On Monday there will be a special assembly with a guest speaker. On Tuesday we will play Kindness bingo and help to create a Kindness banner. The students are encouraged to wear red or pink on Wednesday to promote Bullying Awareness. Thursday and Friday we will be doing activities in the classroom on this topic.

I will post photos next week to share what we are doing!

Math Unit 2- Numbers to 100

This week we will begin our second unit in math which focuses on Numbers to 100.

This unit will focus on deepening your child’s understanding of number relationships, counting and place value.

The learning goals for this unit are to

  • Read numbers to 100 in symbols and in words.
  • Build numbers to 100 with concrete materials.
  • Estimate the number of objects in groups to 100.
  • Count forward and backward using different tools, such as objects, a number line, a 100 chart and coins.
  • Show numbers to 100 as tens and ones using a variety of materials.
  • Compare and order numbers to 100.

I will be sending home a note on Tuesday about your child bringing a small “coin collection” to school to help us with skip counting. I will keep the coins until the end of the year because we will use them more than just in this unit. We love to count money!!If you can not find enough pennies- just send as many as you can. Thanks!

Thanksgiving Lunch

A great BIG THANKS goes out to all the parents who generously provided us with food for our first class lunch today.

It was delicious, and we were stuffed!

Thanks also to Mrs. Knorr and Mr. A who helped with serving and clean up.

It was an exciting day playing in the snow. Please make sure that you have labelled your child’s winter gear, and it a good idea to send some extra socks or pants in their backpacks. There were a few wet kids after lunch.

I hope to see you all at Fun Night tomorrow!

Fresh Grade Update

I found out today that I need to change over the students Fresh Grade Portfolios to another account.

This means that I will need to resend the invitations and you will need to accept them again.

We will be starting over “Fresh” again with Fresh Grade.

Please let me know if you have any problems or if you would like me to send it to more than one email address.

Thanks so much for your support and the positive comments you have posted so far. We are excited to share our learning with our families!

Book It- Reading Challenge from Pizza Hut

Today our class started the Pizza Hut Book It reading challenge.

Each month from Oct.-Mar. I will set a reading goal for our class. At the end of each month every child that meets our reading goal will get a coupon for a FREE personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut! YUM πŸ™‚

The reading goal for October is to read 20 days ( out of 31). I will be counting the days written in the Orange home reading duo-tangs.

A note explaining this will come home tomorrow.

Reading + Pizza = love for reading and pizza!
