Keeping our Classroom Healthy

As the weather changes, colds and flus begin to happen in our busy classroom. To help keep us healthy and germ free I am looking for some donations of hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes for our room. Please let me know if you are able to provide any for us. Thanks in advance for your donation!

Making Connections

This week in Reading Workshop, our class met Bob. I told them that Bob is a great reader because he uses his brain when he reads to help him to learn and grow as a reader. I then showed all the different ” reading powers” that Bob uses when he reads to help him. Our focus for the month of October will be to Make Connections when we read. Connections happen when you read and it reminds you of something that happened to you or to someone you know. A connection also happens if you are reading a book and it reminds you of another book you have read.
Together we read a book called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. I modelled how to use sticky notes to record my connections as I read the book out loud. At the end of the story each child was given their own sticky note to record their connections. We came to the conclusion that we have all had very bad days just like Alexander….as well as many other connections to the story.
