It has been a LONG week- 5 days of inside recess plus a full moon and a Friday the 13th!
We have survived, just barely!
What have we been doing all week to keep us busy during inside recess time?
Many of the children use the ipads, some read or draw pictures. There were some girls busy today building things with links. Many of the boys were building creations with the cube-a-links. Today many were watching some funny Kid Snippet videos. Here is a link to one of my favourites;
Here is what made us smile this week 🙂
Jan. 9– playing badminton in the gym (Jaden)
Jan. 10– going to the library (Ana)
Jan. 11– the whole day, having computers and getting a stuffie (Matt)
Jan. 12– having inside recess (Jacob)
Jan. 13– writing workshop, I always write stories at home and at school (Barrett)
This week we learned all about Fact Families. In Reading Workshop we began working on the comprehension strategy of Inferring. When you infer you are like a reading detective. You use your schema plus the clues from the text to “infer” what is going to happen. We finished up our Social Studies unit on Power and Authority and will finish our Science Air and Water unit on Tuesday. We watched a neat Bill Nye show about Storms today.
The blue Learning Journey duo-tang will be coming home on Monday with a bunch of new stuff to check out inside.
I hope the weather forecast holds true for this weekend as well as for next week- this tired teacher is not a fan of inside recess!
Have a great weekend….and get outside once it warms up!

This is an all call to educators across Saskatoon to get your class to Stick To Reading! Your entire class could also win “swag bags” from McNally Robinson and The Saskatoon Blades.
Meet players from the Saskatoon Blades and their fun-loving mascot Poke Check on Sunday, February 12, starting at 2:00 pm at McNally Robinson Booksellers. Enjoy readings by the players from a featured book and listen to them talk about the important role reading plays in their lives. A Q&A will follow.
You can also pick up a coupon at the in-store event that entitles purchasers of an adult ticket to one free kid’s ticket for the game on Friday, March 10, which pits the Saskatoon Blades against the Swift Current Broncos. This is the “I Love to Read” game and is sponsored by McNally Robinson Booksellers.
Love Hockey! Love to Read!
From January 1 to January 31, students and teachers are invited to go to the Blades website to enter a contest for a school visit by players from the Saskatoon Blades. Select the “Community” tab and go directly to the contest. There students or classrooms can submit a short paragraph about their favourite book and why it is their favourite, with an action shot of them reading. Three winning classes will receive an “I Love to Read” visit from the Saskatoon Blades. Players will read from featured books, hand out goodie bags containing a copy of a featured book, a variety of “reading” goodies, and a coupon that entitles purchasers of an adult ticket to one free kid’s ticket to the McNally Robinson-sponsored game on March 10.
We survived our first week of 2017 and all the inside recesses that it brought. Looking at the forecast for next week it doesn’t look much better.
Here is what made us smile this week: 🙂
Jan. 3– going to the library (Jaida H.)
Jan. 4– playing games on the computer (Porter)
Jan. 5– art (Chiedza)
Jan. 6– watching Auto-B-Good at the assembly (Ayla)
Congratulations to the students who met the reading goal for December and earned FREE PIZZA- Ayla, Barrett, Derek, Callie, Eabha, Jaida H, and Brennan. The reading goal for January is to read 20 nights!
We started our unit on Badminton today. I love watching second graders try to hit the birdie with their racket. The goal today was to see how many times they could hit it- tomorrow we will try with a partner. 🙂
